What is it?

Uric acid is a chemical that is created when the body breaks down substances called purines.

Most uric acid dissolves in the blood and is transported to the kidneys to be eliminated in the urine.   If the body produces too much uric acid or there are abnormalities in its expulsion, the body becomes ill due to hyperuricemia.
